Why the Chevy Silverado EV Requires a Different Liftgate Solution

On the Chevy Silverado EV truck, liftgate installation typically involves removing the rear bumper for installation. The Chevy Silverado EV presents a unique challenge, as the rear bumper extends into the rear quarter panel of the vehicle which requires removal of a significant portion of the rear structure to install a conventional liftgate.

Rather than modifying or removing large sections of the vehicle, Torklift engineers developed a hitch-mounted liftgate install kit that works with the Silverado EV’s design, allowing fleets to add liftgate functionality without compromising the vehicle’s structure.

Hitch-Mounted Liftgate Integration

The TailoredLift™ system uses a cargo tray that fits into the trailer hitch and serves as the mounting platform for the liftgate. This design allows the liftgate to be installed and supported through the hitch rather than replacing the rear bumper assembly.

This is the only liftgate solution for the Silverado EV that incorporates the hitch directly into the liftgate installation, providing a secure mounting point while maintaining compatibility with the vehicle’s architecture.

HiddenPower Integration

This kit includes Torklift HiddenPower auxiliary battery storage located under the bed, allowing the liftgate system to operate without interfering with the Silverado EV’s primary electrical systems. The result is a clean installation that supports liftgate functionality while maintaining vehicle operation.

Custom Fleet Solutions

This TailoredLift™ was originally developed as a custom fleet solution and is now being produced at Torklift’s manufacturing facility in Washington State. Torklift works directly with commercial fleets to design and build custom hitch and towing solutions when off-the-shelf options are not available. For fleets located in or near the Washington State area, Torklift offers in-house engineering, fabrication, and testing to support custom vehicle upfitting needs. Typical lead times range from 1–2 business days for simple fleet projects, with more complex upfits completed in 1–2 weeks, depending on project scope.
