Robust, looks and feels like a premium product.
Significantly better design than Hyundai OEM hitch, which is only available in 1.25” size and sits below bumper. The EcoHitch does require cutting the main rear bumper, but thus provides at least 4” more ground clearance vthan the OEM hitch.
Other aftermarket options I viewed also sit below the bumper. This was a no-go as the ground clearance of the Ioniq 5 is already limited.
Part of me wonders if a one-piece hitch design would have worked – with shims or similar to allow for connection to the stock attachment points. The three-piece design introduces some potential failure points at angular pivots.
The retail price of $427 for this hitch seems like a fair price point, especially given its design advantages vs. OEM and other aftermarket hitches. The stainless construction and coating also feel like they’ll outlive the car.
In my initial towing trials, the Ioniq 5 with the EcoHitch tows GREAT. The AWD / 320hp / significant torque made easy work of my 1,500-pound boat.
I would feel comfortable towing up to around 2,500 pounds with this on occasion. The three-piece design does make me leery of too heavy of loads. Having said that, I don’t plan to tow anything big for long distances with this vehicle.
The deciding factor was the fact that the receiver is crafted from stainless steel. I’ve had several hitches over the years on different vehicles and those made from carbon steel products are prone to accumulating layers of rust, flakey paint, and other debris within the cavity. Those hitches create cleaning issues and make year over year usage progressively more difficult. The stainless steel hitch from TORKLIFT eliminates that problem. I’d expect a long serviceable life from this hitch. It was also competitively priced.
Shipment was fast; arriving in Illinois in just a few days. Packaging was secure; nothing was damaged or missing.
Installation presented no issues, and was finished in just a few hours. I did however go with the HYUNDAI OEM wiring harness, as it was essentially a plug and play install to the prewired socket already present in the trunk area; making for a quick and easy process.
All in all, I couldn’t be more pleased with the performance and looks of this hitch; and the support and service from TORKLIFT. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I would also recommend doing with a friend, though it can be done solo in probably 2.5-3 hours. With a friend, 1.5 hours should do.
