Defining a Dynamic Load
The ApexAnchors Internal Frame-mounted payload anchor system is designed to haul dynamic loads. By definition, a dynamic load refers to the forces that act on a structure or object that change over time. Unlike static loads which remain constant and unchanged, dynamic loads vary in magnitude, direction, and point of application. In our case, a dynamic load would refer to a truck camper loaded in the truck bed. Failure to properly secure dynamic loads can result unsafe or unstable handling and possible damage to truck and camper.
Payload Anchor Points vs. Cargo Anchor Points
The standard cargo anchor points provided by truck manufacturers are intended for light, temporary use. These cargo anchor points are typically not assigned a weight rating and are installed directly onto the truck bed. The truck bed itself is not designed to bear significant loads, especially over prolonged periods.
In contrast, Torklift offers an essential upgrade with our maximum payload anchor point system. These heavy-duty anchor points are bolted directly to the truck's frame, ensuring they can handle substantial loads with a high center of gravity like a truck camper. Importance of Spring-Loaded Turnbuckle System
When looking at dynamic loads, it is important to take into consideration why a spring-loaded turnbuckle system is so key to avoid truck or truck camper damage. For comparison, when looking at constructing buildings there are seismic building codes in place to protect the building from structural damage. A crucial part of this is allowing controlled movement in the building to minimize earthquake damage. The same goes with your truck camper. The spring-loaded turnbuckles allow for a secure connection between anchor points while allowing for just enough flexibility to protect your camper from fractures or long term damage.

Switching to short range turnbuckles was the only correct solution — and by the time we were ready to buy, Torklift had released the new FastGun Apex model. I’m glad we waited, because the Apex design is a noticeable improvement over the originals.
The Apex uses a single hook bolt that you cut to the exact length you need, and trimming it was easy. I used a reciprocating saw and had zero thread issues when reinstalling. The manual’s guideline of keeping 2 7/8" of bolt inside the body was spot on and made setup straightforward.
Tension adjustment is also much better on the Apex. Instead of twisting the hook bolt, you simply rotate the turnbuckle body until the spring tension indicator aligns, then lock it with the handle. It’s faster, more consistent, and easier to see — especially in tight spaces.
They’re not cheap, but once you start using them, you understand why. The Apex turnbuckles are easier to set up, easier to adjust, and a clear improvement over the originals.
