The EcoHitch for the 2010 - 2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen is a bolt-on installation. If you are comfortable removing and reinstalling the rear bumper, you can install the EcoHitch. Definitely review the videos here and on etrailer.com’s web site for installation guidance (the paper instructions could be a bit better). The only problem I had was the bumper cover would not go back on because I did not cut enough plastic away to clear the hitch. Once I cut an additional inch of depth away it fit perfect.
Also, two tiny plastic clips are used to connect the upper side tip of the bumper covers to the sheet metal. Make it easy on yourself and buy new ones, mine cracked upon removal.
After I installed it, I put my 1up bike rack on with a 2nd bike extension, and stood on the end. I weigh 195lbs, and everything was VERY VERY solid.
