Torklift Talon Tie Down and FastGun turnbuckle
There are plenty of options to consider when deciding how to secure your truck camper to your truck.  It’s important to keep in mind there are fundamental differences in how both truck camper turnbuckles and truck camper tie downs are engineered.  Understanding these differences and choosing a truck camper tie down system manufactured for your safety versus a way to cut costs is crucial.

Here is why Torklift International manufactures tie downs and turnbuckles the way we do:

Tie downs

Torklift International Steel TRUE Frame-Mounted Steel Tie Downs

The most secure way a truck camper can be attached to a truck is via the truck’s frame.  That’s why other tie down systems claim to be frame-mounted when in fact they actually mount to the bed and bumper of your truck.

Bed-mounted tie downs cause dangerous flex
Dangers of bed and bumper-mounted tie downs
Your truck’s front tie downs handle the majority of your truck camper’s load.  On bed-mounted tie down systems, that means your truck bed is tasked primarily with keeping the load of your camper secure.
The problem with this is that your truck’s bed is designed to flex, roll and dampen loads that it carries much like your truck’s suspension does.  Your truck camper is simply too much weight with too high a center of gravity to mount to the bed safely in this fashion.
Damage from bed-mounted tie downs

With bed-mounted tie down systems your truck camper wants to lean side-to-side during travel and torques on your truck bed, which in turn torques unnaturally on your truck’s frame.  This can cause permanent damage to your truck’s bed and suspension.

Aside from damage to your vehicle, the flex that bed-mounted tie down systems cause in your truck bed greatly diminishes your truck’s handling characteristics.  Many drivers with these systems feel their truck ‘pulling’ them side-to-side in their lane and experience a leaning sensation as though their truck is threating to roll over.

Always eliminate truck body roll

“There’s just no excuse for bed-mounted tie down systems,” said Torklift Central General Manager Matt Lynch.  “We’ve seen too many customers come in asking us to take them off just from the driving experience alone.  In many cases we also discover damage to their vehicle in the process.”

Torklift International’s steel TRUE frame-mounted Tie Downs feature a patented design that bolts directly to your truck’s frame at four independent tie down points. Torklift’s engineers designed the tie frame-mounted tie downs to bolt directly into pre-existing holes in your truck’s frame whenever possible – most applications are no-drill.

With easily removable inserts, Torklift tie downs are completely hidden when not in use and do not negatively impact your truck’s ground clearance.

When used with any of Torklift’s fully spring-loaded turnbuckles, Torklift warranties your truck’s frame and camper anchor points for the entirety of the manufacturer warranty.  Torklift tie downs are proudly made in the USA and backed by our Legendary Lifetime Warranty.

Turnbuckles

Old-school turnbuckles are a burden

Turnbuckle replacement is worth it

The concept behind the standard turnbuckle is about as old as the nut and bolt.  For as ingeniously simple a design as the standard turnbuckle is, it’s no picnic to use when mounting and removing your truck camper from your truck.

Old-school turnbuckles require that you tighten and loosen them by hand.  Only to achieve enough tension to tighten such turnbuckles and safely secure a truck camper it is often necessary to use a wrench or other tool for leverage.  On top of that, figuring out just how much tension you’ve applied is it’s own dilemma.

FastGun turnbuckles do the work for you

The FastGun comes in four colors

“FastGun takes the concept of the turnbuckle to a whole new level,” said Lynch. “The engineers’ goal was to make a truck camper turnbuckle that is as easy, safe and simplistic as possible.  There’s a reason FastGun is the now the number one selling quick disconnect turnbuckle in the world.”

Torklift International’s FastGun stainless steel turnbuckles are spring-loaded with spring tension indicators.  Once the spring tension indicators are set to their appropriate tension you can install and remove FastGun using the integrated pistol grip.  FastGun automatically returns to the appropriate tension each time the handle is closed.

Removing FastGun is just as easy by simply pulling the handle into the open position and lifting the FastGun out of place.

Say goodbye to the days of wrenching on old-school turnbuckles – FastGun does all the work for you.

FatGuns are backed by Torklift’s legendary Lifetime Warranty and proudly made in the USA.  FastGun Locks are sold separately.
