With meticulous attention to detail and a bit of elbow grease, you’ll successfully install the Kia Niro EcoHitch®. Let’s delve into this step-by-step process.

Step 1:

  • Grab your trim tool or a flat head screwdriver to carefully remove the plastic clips attaching the bottom cover to the underside of the vehicle.
  • Next, remove the screws from the bottom cover. It’s like unscrewing the lid of your favorite cookie jar – simple yet rewarding.
  • Then, face the 2 plastic push nuts from the underside of the vehicle. These little rascals need to be rotated counterclockwise while you apply downward pressure. Fig 1.1 shows the vehicle with the bottom panel removed.

Step 2:

  • Locate the center of the bumper cover.
  • Use a marker to mark the cutout location show in fig 2.1. Precision is your best friend here.
  • Give your panel a stylish haircut using a reciprocating body saw or other cutting tool.

Step 3:

  • Again, locate the center of the bumper cover. Use a marker to mark the cutout location shown in Fig 3.1

Step 4:

  • On 2024+ models, or if your car is feeling a bit stubborn, install the hitch with side plate spacers. To make things easier (and keep your sanity), align the spacers with the holes on the inside of the side-plates and tape them into position. See fig 4.1.
  • Flex those muscles and raise the hitch into position.

  • Install one M10-1.25 x 40mm Hex bolt with one M10 flat washer and one M10 split lock washer into each of the threaded holes on the outer sides of the frame rails. See fig 4.2.

Step 5:

  • Torque the M10 hardware in the sides of the frame rails to 42 ft-lbs. (56 Nm). Not too tight, not too loose, just right. Goldilocks would be proud.
  • Next, torque the 1/2" hardware to 64 ft-lbs. (86 Nm). Give it a good twist but don’t go all hulk on it.

Step 6:

  • Reinstall the bottom cover in the reverse order of removal.
