Your Subaru WRX is already a road warrior, but what if it could also be your towing hero? With the EcoHitch installed, you can haul your favorite toys—bikes, kayaks, trailers—while keeping your ride’s sleek, sporty look. Ready to get started? Follow these steps to install the EcoHitch and unlock the WRX’s full potential.

Step 1: Brake, Relax, and Get Ready

Set the parking brake, and take a deep breath—this is going to be fun! You don’t even need to lift the rear of your WRX for this installation. If you do, remember to chock the front tires and follow Subaru’s lifting guidelines.

Step 2: Clip it Good

Using a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool, remove the 10 clips securing the bottom of the bumper. Think of it as peeling back a layer of your WRX’s style—temporary, of course.

Step 3: Wheel Well Wonders

Move to the rear wheel wells and remove the two push clips by pressing the center of each clip. Once done, pull back the wheel arch trim to reveal a hidden screw. Remove that too—on both sides of the car. Hidden treasures, anyone?

Step 4: Taillight Time

Pop open the trunk and use a trim tool to remove the two clips at the top corners of the taillights. Gently remove the taillight covers to access two screws on each side. Unscrew them, then carefully pull out the taillights. Store them somewhere safe—they’ll be back soon.

Step 5: Bumper Cover Removal

Here’s where you’ll need an extra set of hands. Starting from the outer edges, gently pry the bumper cover off, working toward the center. Once free, store it safely. Next, remove the two nuts and four bolts securing the rear cross member.

Step 6: Hitch Happens

Position the EcoHitch receiver over the rear cross member studs and loosely secure it with the factory nuts. Use the provided bolts, washers, and lock washers to secure the remaining holes. Once everything is aligned, torque all fasteners to 40 ft-lbs. It’s starting to look like a proper towing machine!

Step 7: Custom Fit

Time to make room for the EcoHitch. Remove the rear knockout panel from the bumper cover. Trim the panel and bumper cover using a body saw or similar tool. Precision is key—measure twice, cut once!

Step 8: Magnetic Knockout Panel

Drill a 1/4" hole in the knockout panel, then attach it using the provided eye bolt, spacer, and magnetic bracket. When the hitch insert isn’t installed, the knockout panel magnetically covers the opening for a clean look. Fancy, right?

Step 9: Snap It Back

Reattach the bumper cover, snapping it securely into place. Reinstall the taillights and all the removed hardware. Your WRX is looking sharp again—only now, it’s hitch-equipped!

Step 10: Final Touches

Insert the hitch adapter into the receiver and secure it with the included bolt and washers. Torque the bolt to 112 ft-lbs. Double-check all fasteners, and pat yourself on the back—you’ve just upgraded your WRX!
