Tesla made the official announcement this week that the much-anticipated 2016 Tesla Model X is offered with an optional tow package.  The news is stirring up discussions of EcoHitch for Tesla Model S by Transport Evolved and InsideEVs as an example of how the X might perform when equipped with a factory issued hitch.

The Model X features the same powertrain found in the Tesla Model S 85D, which Tesla believes should be plenty capable of hauling with a trailer hitch, although no official tow weight ratings are released for either vehicle as of yet.

For now, examples of how Model S customers already tow with EcoHitch provide real-world examples of how soon-to-be Model X customers might begin to bring all-electric towing to the mainstream in 2016.
