5 Easy Steps to Make Your Appointment Smooth and Stress-Free
Installing a hitch is one of the best upgrades you can make for towing, hauling, or adding accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. But before you roll into Torklift Central for your scheduled install, there are a few simple things you can do to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Whether you’re booked for an EcoHitch, RV tie downs, or a custom fleet setup, this guide will help you prepare your vehicle for installation day.
1. Clear Out the Cargo Area
Most hitch installations require access to the underbody and rear of your vehicle. To speed things up and avoid unnecessary delays, we recommend:
- Removing any gear, bins, or accessories from your trunk or rear cargo area
- Emptying under-floor storage compartments, if applicable
- Removing any spare tire covers or liners that might block mounting points
If your vehicle has a trunk organizer or tray, it’s helpful to remove that ahead of time too.
2. Clean the Underside (If You Can)
Our team is used to working on all kinds of vehicles, from clean dailies to muddy off-roaders. That said, a quick rinse of the undercarriage can help our techs get better visibility and install your hitch more efficiently.
Not required—but definitely appreciated!
3. Double-Check Your Tow Setup Goals
Are you planning to tow a trailer? Carry bikes? Mount a lift gate or cargo box? Knowing exactly how you plan to use your hitch can help us:
- Confirm that the hitch weight rating are right for your needs
- Recommend accessories like wiring kits, ball mounts, or extensions
- Make sure you’re getting the most functionality out of your install
If you’re unsure, just ask! We’re happy to help you select the right components for your towing goals.
4. Make Sure Your Schedule Is Clear
Depending on your vehicle, hitch model, and any add-ons (like wiring), installations can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours on average.
We recommend arriving a few minutes early, and planning to stay nearby or relax in our customer lounge, where we offer:
- Comfortable seating
- Free Wi-Fi
- And fresh popcorn made daily
If you need to leave the vehicle and come back, no problem—just let our front desk know and we’ll give you a call when it’s ready.
5. Let Us Know If Anything’s Custom or Modified
If your vehicle has aftermarket parts (like body kits, exhaust systems, or custom bumpers), please let us know ahead of time when booking.
This helps our techs plan for the install and ensure we bring the right tools and components to match your setup. If you're not sure what counts as a modification, feel free to send us a photo or give us a call!
