The Nissan Leaf is back — and despite the rumors, the 2026 Nissan Leaf is very real. At Torklift, we currently have a 2026 Nissan Leaf in our research and development bay, where our engineering team is actively scanning and measuring the vehicle to design a vehicle-specific trailer hitch built specifically for Leaf owners who want more utility without sacrificing efficiency.
This video is filmed directly in our R&D facility, and gives you a closer look at what’s coming next.
Is the 2026 Nissan Leaf Discontinued? Nope — We’re Building for It Now
There’s been a lot of confusion online about whether the Nissan Leaf has been discontinued. While earlier generations raised questions, we can confirm firsthand: the 2026 Nissan Leaf exists, and we are designing a custom-fit trailer hitch specifically for this model year.
Having the vehicle physically in-house allows us to:
- Perform high-accuracy 3D scanning
- Engineer a hitch that integrates cleanly with the chassis
- Optimize strength, fitment, and ground clearance
- Prepare for real-world towing and cargo use
Why a Trailer Hitch Makes More Sense Than a Roof Rack on the Nissan Leaf
One of the biggest concerns for EV owners is range, and the Nissan Leaf is no exception. Aerodynamics play a huge role in how efficiently an electric vehicle performs.
That’s why many Leaf owners are hesitant to install a roof rack:
- Roof racks significantly increase drag
- Increased drag = reduced driving range
- Wind noise and efficiency loss add up quickly on EVs
A rear-mounted trailer hitch is often the smarter solution.
Benefits of a 2026 Nissan Leaf Trailer Hitch
- Better aerodynamics compared to roof-mounted accessories
- Ideal for bike racks, cargo carriers, and light towing
- Keeps weight low and behind the vehicle
- Preserves range better than roof racks
If you’re carrying bikes, extra gear, or cargo trays, a Leaf trailer hitch gives you flexibility without compromising efficiency.
2026 Nissan Leaf Towing Capacity: What We Know So Far
As of the filming of our promo video, the official published towing capacity for the 2026 Nissan Leaf has not yet been released.
However, during the design phase, we are engineering the hitch with target ratings of:
- Up to 400 lbs tongue weight
- Up to 3,000 lbs towing capacity
⚠️ Final towing and tongue weight ratings will be:
- Fully validated through engineering analysis
- Published on our website once complete
- Included in the official installation video and documentation
We always recommend following manufacturer-approved ratings and hitch-specific guidelines once they are finalized.
Check back daily for the official weight ratings once they are released
What Makes the Torklift 2026 Nissan Leaf Trailer Hitch Different
This won’t be a generic hitch. The 2026 Nissan Leaf trailer hitch we’re designing includes premium features engineered specifically for long-term ownership and EV-friendly use.
Stainless Steel Receiver
- Won’t rust or corrode over time
- No orange rust stains on your garage floor
- Prevents bike racks and accessories from seizing or fusing inside the receiver
Angled-Up Receiver for Maximum Ground Clearance
- Improved departure angle
- Better clearance for driveways, ramps, and uneven terrain
- Ideal for daily driving and urban environments
These details matter — especially on a low-profile EV like the Nissan Leaf.
Installation Video & Weight Ratings Coming Soon
We’re not stopping at the hitch itself. Once development is complete, we’ll be releasing:
- A step-by-step 2026 Nissan Leaf trailer hitch installation video
- Final tongue weight and towing capacity ratings
- Full product documentation and compatibility details
All of this will be available directly on our website and linked from the installation video.
