The 5th Annual Kent Turkey Challenge is a community effort to help support the Kent Food Bank during the Thanksgiving holiday. By challenging local businesses and organizations to a friendly competition of collecting and raising the most food and monetary donations, our community is able to provide support to those in need. Going strong for its fifth year, the Kent Turkey Challenge must raise the bar this year striving for record breaking donations – all to make it its best year yet!
Our goals this year:
So far we are at:
One hundred percent of the proceeds from Kent Turkey Challenge go directly to the Kent Food Bank.
The Kent Turkey Challenge wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated sponsors and community support. We would like to thank the Kent Reporter for dedicating their time and efforts to the Kent Turkey Challenge. As a top news source for the community of Kent, Washington, their coverage of the Kent Turkey Challenge gives the event exposure to the community, helping others to learn about how they can help.
We asked Kent Reporter a few questions about what the Kent Turkey Challenge means to them, and Regional Manager Polly Shepherd gave us some great insight.
Torklift Central: What prompted your involvement with the Kent Turkey Challenge and why?
Kent Reporter:
This annual event is a great way to give back to the community and to those in need.
Torklift Central: How many years has your organization been involved/participated in the Kent Turkey Challenge?
Kent Reporter: We’ve participated since 2013.
Torklift Central: What is your favorite part about the Kent Turkey Challenge?
Kent Reporter: The competition among the businesses in Kent and seeing the growth in donations year over year.
Torklift Central: What’s your favorite thing about Thanksgiving?
Kent Reporter: Spending time with family and friends and also being able to serve those in need. I have been among a group of hard working volunteers that serve Thanksgiving dinner to those in need at the Golden Steer for 5 years. The outpouring of gratitude from the groups we serve is what keeps us coming back every year to serve.
Torklift Central: What’s your favorite food/dish during this holiday?
Kent Reporter: Cold turkey sandwiches the day after Thanksgiving.
We couldn’t agree more. Those turkey leftovers make for a happy tummy in the days following Thanksgiving holiday. We certainly hope the donations collected will provide a happy thanksgiving for community members in need. With the opportunity for us to make a lasting positive impact in the lives of families during the holidays, we’re grateful that the Annual Kent Turkey Challenge brings the community together in support of a good cause.
So don’t delay - hurry and collect! We are picking up all donations on Nov. 18-19 and are looking forward to a hefty delivery to the Kent Food Bank on Nov. 20, 2015.
